The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Lyudmyla Denisova, discussed the situation in Donbas, repression against the Crimean Tatars and the issue of the Kremlin political prisoners with the newly appointed Head of the UN Monitoring Mission on Human Rights in Ukraine Matilda Bogner. The ombudsman wrote about this on her Facebook page.

“I had the pleasure to get acquainted with the newly appointed head of the UN Monitoring Mission on Human Rights in Ukraine, Matilda Bogner. And we conducted the substantive discussion of the situation in the east of Ukraine and the violation of human rights related to the conflict - a complicated intersection of the demarcation line, difficulties with the implementation of social benefits and pensions,” Denisova noted.

Commissioner for Human Rights added that the UN Monitoring Mission on Human Rights has a representative office in Donetsk and Luhansk, as well as the ability to carry out remote monitoring of the situation in Crimea, therefore she turned to the head of the mission with a request for information exchange.

“Repressions against the Crimean Tatars and citizens of Ukraine, the attack on the Orthodox Church in Crimea, the cases of Edem Bekirov, Volodymyr Balukh, Pavlo Gryb, I particularly noted on these issues,” said Denisova.

She also asked the head of the UN mission to assist in the transfer of prisoners from ORDLO to the territory of Ukraine.

“Over the past half year I have been able to relocate 319 people from the temporarily occupied territory of the Luhansk region, the occupation administration of the so-called DNR is blocking this process,” the ombudsman wrote.
