Georgian ex-Minister of Defense arrested due to protests

The Municipal Court of Tbilisi arrested Georgian ex-Minister of Defence and acting leader of the political party Victorious Georgia Irakli Okruashvili due to the protests in the city. Georgian First Channel informs it.

As it s reported, the proceeding as of June 20 where the issue of restrictive measures was addressed for Okruashvili and the other two involved, was closed. The court made the appropriate decision shortly after the beginning of the hearing as the supporters of the politician were making noise and applauding in the hall. Okruashvili lawyers' asked the court to release the man without restrictions during the investigation, however, they got rejected. 

The politician is detained under the article Organization, heading and participating in group violence according to the Criminal Code of Georgia. The case is related to the events as of June 20-21.

As it was reported earlier, Georgian ex-Minister of Defence and acting leader of the political party Victorious Georgia Irakli Okruashvili was detained on July 26. Head of the Department of the Criminal Police Mamuka Chemidze stated that Okruashvili encouraged demonstrators to storm the Parliament. According to the police, Okruashvili also participated in group violence.
